Canning and food preservation expert Cathy Barrow is teaching a class at 6 p.m. May 11 at Southern Season in Chapel Hill.
Barrow is the author of “Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Practical Pantry,” one of my favorite canning books published in recent years. She also writes a regular canning column for the Washington Post as well as for her blog, Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Kitchen.

Barrow will teach students how to do water-bath canning and make no-pectin, no-fail strawberry jam, strawberry jam barbecue sauce with pork sliders, and mini jam tarts.
