This is my new favorite cocktail: Common 414’s Cuke of York.
The flavors – gin, lime juice and cucumber – are so refreshing in the summer heat.
In fact, I love this cocktail so much that I packed the ingredients and a cocktail shaker to enjoy them at last weekend’s Kirby Derby in Raleigh. We were lucky enough to enjoy a cocktail or two before the rain ushered us home before the derby races really started.
We are highlighting cocktail recipes from Triangle bars and restaurants all month on our curated recipe site: nando.com/therecipe.

Common 414’s Cuke of York
From Zack Medford, owner of Common 414, a cocktail bar in downtown Raleigh.
1 1/2 ounces gin, such as Hendrick’s
1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
5 cucumber slices, divided
2 sugar cubes
Rosemary sprig, for optional garnish
Combine gin, lime juice, 4 cucumber slices, sugar cubes and ice cubes in a cocktail shaker.
Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice. (To make crushed ice, use a mallet to smash ice cubes between two kitchen towels.)
Strain cocktail into rocks glass with crushed ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with remaining cucumber slice and rosemary spring.
Yield: 1 serving.
