Hillsborough’s Panciuto restaurant is hosting a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 to benefit the Music Maker Relief Foundation.
Bluesmen John Dee Holman and Big Ron Hunter will be at the dinner telling stories and sharing their musical experience with us.
The nonprofit’s founders, Tim and Denise Duffy, with be on hand to discuss the foundation’s work preserving Southern musical traditions and directly supporting these musicians. As the Duffys explain: the couple met many of these musicians in the 1990s, many of them lived in abject poverty, but when the couple asked what they could do for help, the musicians didn’t want money, they wanted a gig. The nonprofit started recording, documentation, booking gigs, professional guidance, providing instruments, stipends for food, shelter and medical care. Info: www.musicmaker.org
Tickets cost $100 per person and include food, drink and tip. For reservations, call 919-732-6261.
