Triangle restaurateur Giuseppe Cataldo has opened a new neighborhood bar in North Raleigh’s Stonehenge Shopping Center tucked behind his Italian restaurant, Serena Cucina.
This latest concept, Serena Society, is the third restaurant by Cataldo, who owns Serena Cucina on Creedmoor Road in North Raleigh as well as Serena Gastropub on Miami Boulevard in Durham.
Serena Society serves Sicilian-inspired street fare that customers will order at the bar. The menu will include fries, salads, subs, pizza and pasta. One highlight: the “spiedie,” a sandwich local to Binghamton, N.Y., made with cubed chicken in a marinade of olive oil, vinegar, citrus juice, dried herbs and spices and popular here with IBM transplants.
“We’re excited to introduce Society as a neighborhood tavern with something for everyone,” said Cataldo in a press release.

Cataldo moved here from Endicott, N.Y., where his family owned Tony’s Pizza, which IBM old-timers may remember. In 2010, Cataldo opened Serena Gastropub at 5311 South Miami Boulevard in Durham. Three years later, he opened Serena Cucina at 7456 Creedmoor Road in the space formerly occupied by Wildflour Pizza.
Serena Society is open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday, 4:30-9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 4:30-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
