Favorite Things: Prized possessions you can’t do without

This is a desk that my grandfather bought for my grandmother as an engagement gift. He paid $5 a month on it until it was paid for, a total of $75 in the 1920s. After inheriting it, I refinished the desk, but I left the chair alone. You can see where my grandfather gripped the top of the chair each time he passed it as he became lame, and it is precious to me. I think of him every time I sit there and I keep their 50th anniversary picture on the desk.
