Burghard “Burg” Ruterbories, formerly of Morris Plains, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Transitions Hospice in Raleigh, NC after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Ruterbories, son John and daughter-in-law Denise Ruterbories of Raleigh, NC, son Andy and daughter-in-law Michelle Ruterbories of Victoria, TX, daughter Julie Ruterbories and son-in-law Dan Hildreth currently of Bogota, Colombia, grandchildren Laura, Matthew, Stephen and Ryan as well as brother Uli and sister-in-law Karin Ruterbories of Gutersloh, Germany. He was predeceased by his parents, Johan and Anne Ruterbories.
Born July 23, 1937 in Germany, Burg came to Evansville, IN as a high school student in 1954 and fell in love with America. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Burg was employed by Exxon Research and Engineering based in Florham Park, NJ for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed his many foreign work assignments in Europe and loved history, sailing and traveling for both work and pleasure.
In lieu of flowers, tributes in Burg’s memory may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
A memorial celebration of his life for his many friends and family will be held at a later date.
