Mildred “Scotty” Mary Greis Lee, 88, passed away on Friday, June 12 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She had lived in Durham since 2006. Ms. Lee was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late, Victor and Fredericka Greis. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Victor Greis.
A forty-year resident of Port Washington, NY, Scotty developed a career as a public relations professional in New York City and Long Island while raising and supporting three children as a single mother. She worked for International Human Assistance Programs (IHAP), the Port Washington Public Library, Port Washington School District and as a consultant to businesses on Long Island. She was co-founder of the North Shore Business Forum.
Scotty also served on the board of the Cow Neck Historical Society. Her love of her community was evident in the well-crafted articles she wrote on various aspects of Port Washington history over the years.
Scotty was the valedictorian of her class at Stephens College (MO) and received a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College (VT).

Scotty is survived by two daughters, Virginia Lee and Andrea Lee and partner, Christine Cassels; a son, Mark Lee and wife, Sarah; grandchildren, Ryan Lee, Taylor Lee Glover, and Luke and Jonathan Lee; and great grandchildren, Sage and Mason Glover.
The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Service, Inc., in Durham, N.C. A private observance and celebration of Scotty and her life will be held later in the summer.
