George Wilson Murphy, 99, died Saturday June 20, 2015 eight days before his 100th birthday at his residence. He was born in Franklin County son of the late Cornelia Roberts Murphy and James F. Murphy and was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Murphy Howell.
George was a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was a retired tobacco buyer with Thorpe Greenville and a retired tobacco farmer.
Funeral services will be held 4 o’clock Monday afternoon June 22, 2015 at Harris Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Haley officiating. Entombment will be held at a later date in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years Emily White Murphy; a daughter, Judy M. Currin and husband Tom of Cary; sons, Rick Wilson Murphy and wife Martha of Greensboro, George Wilson Murphy, Jr. of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Murphy Ayala and husband Steve, Curt Trogdon and wife Carla, Blake Murphy and wife Bethaney, Connor Wilson Murphy and Elizabeth Camille Brown; 4 great grandchildren.
