Paula Nalley Sable

Paula Nalley Sable, 57, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Paula was born on November 24, 1957 in Shelby, NC to Charles and Jeanette Nalley. Before her passing, Paula was employed by SciMetrika as a Records Management Specialist. Paula was devoted to her family and loved her children and grandchildren above all else. She was a vivacious woman, generous and caring with a love of life that was evident to all who knew her.

Paula battled brain cancer for more than three years. She maintained an optimistic, positive outlook during the entire course of her illness and never lost her sense of humor. Shortly after beginning treatment, Paula participated in a clinical trial at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She was determined to beat the cancer, whatever it took. Paula never quit and departed this life only when the good Lord took her.

Paula is survived by her husband Jay Sable of Raleigh, NC, her parents Jeanette and Charles Nalley of Shelby, NC, her daughter Angela Allen of Raleigh, NC and son Matthew Whisonant of Rock Hill, SC, stepdaughter Maria Sable of Hertford, NC, granddaughter Ava Brandon and grandson Gabriel Whisonant, sister Donna Lane and brothers Eric Nalley and Charles Nalley Jr.

The family would like to thank Paula's doctors, Robin Koeleveld, Roy Cromartie, John Reilly and Kenneth Carnes for the top-notch care they provided. In addition, we wish to thank Transitions LifeCare of Wake County for their much-needed support and assistance during Paula's final months. Very, very special thanks to Paula's primary home health aides, Rochelle Fletcher and Jane Muturi. You are truly God's angels here on earth. We also thank Chrissy Gresham, RN of BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina and Kim Chapman, (former) Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Neurosurgery at UVA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 (transitionslifecare.org/) and the UVA program in Neurosurgery Clinical Research at UVA Health System Development Office, PO Box 800773, Charlottesville, VA 22908-0773 (neurosciences.uvahealth.com/clinical-trials-research).
