Eugene Arthur McMahon passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday July 16, 2015 at Litchford Falls Nursing and Rehab Center, Raleigh NC, under the care of Hospice.
Eugene was born on February 8, 1933 in Buffalo NY. He was the son of Arthur Philmore McMahon and Elnora (Langley) McMahon.
He graduated from Lake Shore Central High School, Angola NY, and attended both Ithaca College (Ithaca NY) and University of Illinois (Urbana) where he majored in piano and music composition. While Gene was an excellent piano player, his working career was spent predominantly as senior engineer at various companies including ASTEC, ECRM, Veeco Instruments Inc., and Gulton Marine Instruments Division.
Gene was a member of various societies including Kappa Gamma Psi (Ithaca College), the National Geographic Society, and was a member of MENSA, joining the Boston chapter in the 1970's, becoming the editor of the Beacon, (Boston Chapter) for several years in the 1980's, and then joining MENC, the North Carolina chapter when he moved to Raleigh. He had varied interests which led among other things to to receiving a pilot's license for flying small aircraft, and a parachute jump certificate, and in most recent years was an avid tennis player. For some years he maintained an online web site called LIFECOMS dedicated to socio-economic topics.
Survivors include a brother Donald McMahon of Gansevoort NY, and two sisters, Jessie Mackenburg of Angola-on-the-Lake NY and Eileen Orr of Denver Colorado, a dear friend Jeanne Temkin of Raleigh NC, and many cousins, nieces and nephews located in many parts of the country.
