James Whitmel Anthony, 84, died July 28th at Hillside Nursing Facility in Wake Forest following a stroke.
Jimmy was the son of the late Whitmel Hill Anthony and Christine Honeycutt Anthony. He grew up in Millbrook and graduated from Millbrook High School in 1949. After graduation he entered the US Air Force. Upon completion of service to his country he returned to North Carolina and began building and chartering his own fishing boat, the Mako at Harkers Island. In the early 60’s he joined the Wake County Sheriff’s Department and served until his retirement in 1987. In 1972 he was awarded Wake County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Jimmy loved water skiing at Gresham’s Lake, hunting, fishing, sharing law enforcement stories, and his many friends and family including his dog Cindy.
?He is survived by his devoted wife, Anne Mallard Anthony and son James Whitmel “Whit” Anthony, Jr. (Donna) and his special granddaughter Rylie Anne Anthony. He is also survived by his siblings Whitmel Hill “Buzzy” Anthony of Stuart, FL. and Rebecca Anthony “Becky” Douglas of Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
Gathering will be held 6-7:30 pm, Thursday, Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC (casual dress please) and other times at the home, Wendell, NC. Funeral Services will be privately held.
