Kathleen "Kit" Canene, née Dorris, age 93, passed away suddenly during devotions in the chapel at Whispering Pines on August 12, 2015. Kit was born in Marion, Illinois, but lived most of her life in Chicago and its suburbs. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas S. Canene, mother of Kathy Kidd (Robert "Sandy") and Paula Vorel (Timothy), grandmother of Kristen Kidd Oakley (Zachary) and Nicole Vorel (fiancé Mike), great grandmother of Adelaide Winn Oakley and aunt to Candy Cardin, Donna Dunkin, Robin Bloch, Patti Nelson and Al Dunn. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Artance Schweitzer, Lucille Handy and Phauneil Dunn.
After receiving her B.A. and Master's Degree in Special Education, she taught for 30 years in Orland Park and South Holland, Illinois, where she was a much loved and respected teacher. She loved golfing, swimming, singing hymns, reading her Bible and traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. She had recently returned from her annual "girls' trip" with her daughters and had just attended her great granddaughter's first birthday party. She was an avid needlepointer and knitter.
Visitation was held at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Orland Park, IL. Her funeral was held at First Baptist Church of Tinley Park, IL. A private memorial service will be held in the chapel at Whispering Pines. Condolences: rfhr.com
