Edward “Ed” Reed Crume, 88, of Clayton passed peacefully at home August 21, 2015. He was born June 11, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Marguerite and Reed Crume. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas.
Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta, children, Charles, Joan, Carol and husband Nicholas Coleman, Janet and Carl, grandson, Robert Coleman and wife Shelley, and 2 great grandchildren.
After graduating high school, Ed was inducted into the Army Oct. 9, 1945 during WWII. Ed served in the South Pacific on Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands and then West Germany. Next Ed enlisted in the U.S.A.F., assigned to the Office of Special Investigations at WPAFB, OH, then England and back to WPAFB. He retired from the Air Force Jan. 31, 1967 then became a Federal Civil Service Employee with the IRS. After retiring from the IRS, Ed and Loretta moved to FL and then NC.
A funeral service will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 4057 US 70 Business, Clayton Wed., August 26 at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
