Sandra Lake Wimbish, 57, of Greensboro, died at her home Wednesday, August 26, 2015, following a lengthy illness.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro.
Sandy lived in Raleigh and Cary for 20 years beginning in 1997 before returning to her hometown of Greensboro in 2008. She attended Grimsley Senior High School before graduating in 1976 and matriculating at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where she earned a B.A. in English with a minor in Drama. Later she earned an M.S. in Writing and Editing from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from Duke University in Durham, NC. She worked as a consulting writer for primarily governmental agencies and academic institutions.
Sandy was a member of the Hamilton Lakes Lions Club, the Rachel Caldwell Chapter of the American Daughters of the Revolution, both of Greensboro and the Samuel Ashe Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy of Raleigh. She was a member of Church of the Nativity while living in Raleigh and Cary.
Ms. Wimbish was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Edmunds Wimbish and Jessie Pratt Wimbish. She is survived by her sister, Susan Wimbish Potter, and her husband Richard Welch Potter of Raleigh, NC and their two daughters, Elizabeth Lake Potter and Grayson Ann Potter, both of Washington, DC.
