Wilson bridal shop is closing

In Wilson, a family-owned business that has been open for 70 years is closing after this weekend.

Lucielle's Bridals & Formals has been serving brides and formalwear customers since 1939.

It's clearing out its inventory from noon to 5:30 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Third-generation owner Angela Risko said the decision was not based on the economy. She and her mother simply decided it was time for the business to wind down, "to keep it on a high note."

Lucielle's is named for Risko's maternal grandmother, who began the business with her husband.

Back then it was a ladies apparel store that stocked some wedding dresses and was on bustling Nash Street.

In 1954, the store switched to selling only bridal and formalwear.

It has moved around Wilson a few times over the years and is now at 801 Ward Blvd.

Risko said her mother is officially retiring. Risko, who lives in Raleigh, is exploring the idea of becoming a personal styling consultant.

If some dresses and accessories remain after this weekend's sale, Risko will show and sell them by appointment, starting May 30.

The Allen Funk's Wallpapers store in Cary's MacGregor Village will close after 15 years in business.

The company is consolidating the operations of that store with its Raleigh store at 5910 Duraleigh Road. The clearance sale has started at the Cary location, which is at 107 Edinburgh South, Suite 103. Depending on how quickly the inventory sells, the Cary store should close this summer.

After just about a year in business at 4300 NW Cary Parkway in Cary, The Ocean Grill has moved to 121 N. Salem St. in Apex. The restaurant, which serves fresh seafood, is just across the street from the Peak City Grill, which has the same owner, Steve Adams.
