Cree has introduced a new LED lighting component that it touts will enable makers of track, ceiling downlight and outdoor lighting to reduce costs by up to 60 percent.
The Durham-based company announced Tuesday the launch of the CXA2 LED arrays, which use the SC5 Technology Platform that it announced last fall. LED arrays are clusters of LEDs.
The new CXA2 LED arrays deliver improved lighting performance and, consequently, manufacturers can reduce the size and cost of systems.
Cree also noted that the new arrays share the same design as its earlier arrays, enabling manufacturers to accelerate incorporating them into their products.
Cree makes the top-selling LED light bulbs as well as indoor and outdoor light fixtures, but it also makes components other companies use in their LED lights.
