The Hatteras ferry got an unusual rider Tuesday.
A photograph of Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile riding on the ferry was posted to the North Carolina Ferry System’s Facebook page. The image, captured by Jason Wells of Jason’s Restaurant on Ocracoke Island, shows a crowd of people on the deck looking at the frankfurter-shaped vehicle.
“Hey! Look what came aboard the Hatteras ferry today!” the system’s post said.
The post has been shared nearly 2,000 times and gleaned nearly 700 likes.

On the website for the Wienermobile, Oscar Mayer says its vehicle, driven by product representatives called “Hotdoggers,” is on a mission to share the company’s new dogs, which it says are now free of artificial preservatives.
The website said the company is taking job applications for wiener car drivers, or “Wienermobile pilots.”
“Pilots who are skilled at delivering unlimited joy to thousands of people every day,” the site says.
