Travelers will be able to fly nonstop from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to the Florida Panhandle, on a new seasonal flight announced Tuesday by Allegiant Airlines.
Allegiant will fly twice weekly from RDU to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport starting June 8. Destin-Fort Walton will be the sixth nonstop destination for Las Vegas-based Allegiant from RDU and the fourth to Florida.
Allegiant Airlines will be the only one to offer nonstop flights from RDU to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, which now becomes the 54th nonstop destination from the Triangle.
Last week, Frontier Airlines announced six new nonstop flights from RDU, including four to destinations not now served by any other airlines: Buffalo, Milwaukee, San Antonio and San Juan. Those flights begin in April.
A record 11.6 million travelers passed through RDU in 2017 – 5.6 percent more than the previous year. The growth came from a combination of new flights and healthy demand for existing ones. About 83 percent of all available seats on flights in and out of the airport were full, the highest load factor in five years, according to RDU.
