Frontier Communications plans to create 200 jobs in Durham over the next five years as the telecommunications provider establishes a technical support center to assist its customers nationwide.
The company expects to invest $4.3 million in the expansion. The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $47,112. The Durham County average is $66,599.
Frontier was awarded a state incentives package Monday that could pay the company $880,500 if it meets hiring and investment targets. Durham County is also providing the company with $64,000.
The company also considered sites in Florida, Texas, Utah and South Carolina.

Norwalk, Conn.-based Frontier provides communications services, including broadband, video, voice and wireless Internet access to small businesses, home offices and companies in 28 states.
The company employs 248 people in North Carolina, where it offers services in 15 counties. In October 2014, Frontier selected Durham as the first market where it launched its gigabit-speed Internet service.
This latest expansion will nearly double the number of people Frontier employs in Durham. Commerce Secretary John Skvarla III, said in a statement. The new jobs will include billing and support specialists, programming and network design professionals and field installation technicians.
