Aqua North Carolina, the state’s largest private waterworks, has named Shannon Becker as the company’s top executive in the state.
Becker will replace outgoing president Tom Roberts, who will retire Aug. 1.
As president, Becker will oversee an operation with 160 employees, 95,000 customer accounts and 750 water systems. He will also oversee a private utility company that charges twice as much as a typical city water system and supplies water in 51 counties in the state.
Aqua NC is the Cary-based subsidiary of Aqua America, which is headquartered in Bryn Mawr, Penn. The company’s North Carolina revenue was $52 million in 2015, representing 6.4 percent of Aqua America’s total revenue in eight states.

Aqua’s water and sewer operations include more than 400 subdivision in Wake County that are not connected to municipal water services.
Becker joined Aqua in 2009 as controller and in 2012 was named interim president and later president for Aqua Virginia before being tapped to head the North Carolina subsidiary.
