After operating out of a temporary space since March, Quail Ridge Books plans to open in its new North Hills location Monday.
The popular book store, which moved to North Hills from Wade Avenue’s Ridgewood Shopping Center in June, features reading nooks, cozy chairs and whimsical feathered light fixtures in the two-story space.
“I wanted sort of an eclectic look, a sort of old bookstore look with a funky look,” said owner Lisa Poole.
On Monday, British mysteries author Elizabeth George will appear to promote her book, “A Banquet of Consequences,” at the new store. A grand-opening celebration with giveaways and other festivities is planned for the weekend of July 23-24.

Nancy Olson opened Quail Ridge Books in 1984 in the Quail Corners Shopping Center on Falls of Neuse Road. The store later moved to Wade Avenue and became a well-known spot for author events and book clubs.
Olson sold the store to Poole in 2013. She died in March at the age of 75.
Quail Ridge Books left Ridgewood because a lease agreement with the landlord couldn’t be reached.
Poole had hoped the new space in the Lassiter District of North Hills, near the Total Wine store, would be done quickly. But when architects discovered the potential to build a second floor, the construction schedule changed.
As the store waited for crews to finish the renovations, it occupied a smaller temporary space next to Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Poole said the new 9,000-square-foot store features cherished items from the Ridgewood location, including signed photographs of visiting authors that adorned the bathroom walls.
The second story houses staff offices and space for crowds to watch first-floor events from the balcony.
Up to 200 people can gather in one corner for an event while a book club meets in a different part of the store, Poole said.
She didn’t want to divulge too much information about the new space because she wants customers to be surprised.
“The combination of what made Quail Ridge Books great, and this new beautiful space – I think it’s going to be an award-winning store,” said store manager Sarah Goddin said.
Goddin said she thinks Olson would be thrilled about the newest iteration of Quail Ridge Books.
“She’d be amazed,” Goddin said. “I think she would love it.”
