A new Aldi grocery store will open in Garner on Thursday, the eighth Triangle location for the German-based discount grocer.
The store, located at 750 Timber Dr., will open its doors at 9 a.m. after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first 100 shoppers will receive Aldi gift certificates of varying amounts.
Free samples will be served and customers may enter a drawing for a year’s supply of Aldi produce.
Following Aldi’s traditional business model, the Garner store is smaller in size and selection than most competing chain stores and stocks its merchandise in open carton displays, both of which help keep costs down. Aldi estimates it sells about 1,300 of the most commonly purchased grocery items.

Other cost-savings measures include: shorter business hours, a bring-your-own shopping bag policy and a cart rental system. Customers are reimbursed the 25-cent fee when carts are returned.
Other Triangle Aldi stores are located in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Wake Forest and Fuquay-Varina.
The new store is part of a broader expansion effort by Aldi. The chain has nearly 1,400 stores in 32 states with plans to add an average of 130 new stores per year. Aldi's U.S. headquarters are in Batavia, Ill.
The Garner store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. ALDI accepts cash, debit and EBT cards.
