Starting today, shoppers can cash in on SavingStar.com’s cash-back digital coupons at an expanded list of stores, including some of the biggest names in retail.
As of this morning, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Family Dollor and Dollar General have been added to the list of SavingStar’s participating retailers.
Up until now, participating retailers have all had loyalty cards that customers linked to SavingStar offers.
To redeem a SavingStar offer at one of the retailers on the expanded list, shoppers must take pictures of their store receipts and upload them using the SavingStar smartphone app. The process is similar to competing digital cash-back programs Ibotta, Checkout 51 and Shopmium.
Though Walgreens has a loyalty card, it is included in the new group of retailers requiring the store receipt.
Today’s expansion brings the number of participating stores in the Triangle to 12.
Other participating stores in the Triangle are Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Just Save, Kroger, Food Lion, CVS and Rite Aid.
If you’re unfamiliar with SavingStar.com, it provides shoppers with cash back for promotions. Instead of seeing the discount at the register, the money is held in a virtual piggy bank of sorts until a customer has redeemed at least $5 in SavingStar offers.
Customers may choose to have the money deposited in their savings accounts or PayPal accounts. Or the savings can be redeemed as Amazon credit.
