CAROLINA NORTH

As federal research money tightens, UNC-Chapel Hill officials say they need Carolina North to remain competitive. They also say such parks can generate jobs across the state.

As proposed, the research campus would have 8 million square feet, built in phases over 50 years. It would be a mix of labs, offices, shops and homes.

James Moeser is the third chancellor to discuss developing the state-owned land mostly west of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and north of Estes Drive, nearly two miles from the main campus.
