Bingo can mean big money. Games with state licenses can hand out $500 prizes. Most games, though, offer much less.
The top prize in Cary and Holly Springs, for instance, is $10 because neither game is licensed by the state.
In Wake Forest, food prizes are popular. Winners at the Northern Wake Senior Center's bingo get their pick of day-old breads and desserts donated by a local grocery store. The Wake Forest Kiwanis club gave lobster, shrimp and steak to those who got bingo at a recent fundraising event.
