Suspect may have been responsible for car chase

DURHAM -- Authorities are hunting for the man they think led a sheriff's deputy on a chase that caused the deputy to flip his cruiser.

Robert Valdez Martinez, 23, is wanted for breaking and entering and fleeing to elude arrest in the Wednesday chase, as well as other outstanding charges.

Deputy Jason Brooks was injured when his car flipped into a ditch off Midland Terrace. He was pursuing a gray Monte Carlo suspected of being involved in a break-in.

He is expected to recover.

Investigators found what they say is Martinez' car Wednesday night.

Anyone with information about Martinez is asked to call the Durham County Sheriff's Office at (919) 560-0900. Officials say Martinez could be armed and dangerous.
