Six months after Hurricane Katrina washed over South Mississippi, the official death count there stands at 231. Two of those killed remain unidentified. An additional 60 people remain missing.
Property damages are estimated at $125 billion, with more than 65,000 houses destroyed. One emergency shelter remains open: a cruise ship docked in Pascagoula that houses 52 families.
As of early February, 109,893 Mississippians remained displaced by Katrina. Of those, 49,720 had moved out of state.
Nearly 99,000 people were housed in more than 36,600 FEMA travel trailers and mobile homes as of Feb. 15.
