Footprints in the snow help police find break-in suspects

Greenville police officers arrested two men accused of car break-ins early Thursday by following their tracks in the snow, police said.

A witness saw Carlos Whitaker, 21, and Demetrius Jenkins, 18, pulling on car door handles about 12:20 a.m on Belvedere Drive, said Greenville police spokesperson Kristen Hunter. The break-ins occurred in a residential area, east of NC 11.

“Officers responded, located the footprints and tracked the suspects, who were walking a couple of blocks away,” she said.

Whitaker and Jenkins were arrested and charged with multiple car break-ins.

They remained in Pitt County Detention Center Thursday morning, WITN reported.

Jenkins was charged with one felony and multiple misdemeanors of breaking or entering a motor vehicle, and injury to personal property. His bond was set at $33,000.

Whitaker was charged with one felony and multiple misdemeanors of breaking or entering a motor vehicle, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $35,000.
