Carolina Hurricanes fans feeling empty after Tuesday’s one-goal loss to Tampa Bay could easily feel full again on Wednesday.

A goal by defenseman Justin Faulk pulled off a rare feat — activating all three of the Hurricanes’ food promotions at once. The feat went viral after being dubbed a “fat trick” by a fan on the Reddit hockey page.

Faulk’s goal on a power play at 10:36 in the second period, which tied the score at 3-3, completed the trifecta:

▪ Any time Faulk scores, Triangle-area Moe’s locations hand out a free side of queso the next day.

▪ Papa John’s offers half-priced pizzas (online only) on days after the Canes score at least three goals.

▪ And Bojangles’ gives free Bo-Berry biscuits to customers who say “I’m a Caniac, and it’s Bo Time!” the morning after the Canes score a power-play goal.

The Hurricanes went on to lose 5-4 to the Lightning after Tampa Bay’s Tyler Johnson scored an old-fashioned “hat trick” — three goals in a game.

By Wednesday morning, a post about Faulk’s feat on the hockey subreddit had been voted up more than 14,000 times and drawn hundreds of comments. Some of the conversation revolved around the best ways to celebrate a “fat trick.”
