People had warm words for a state trooper and an owl he helped rescue after the N.C. State Highway Patrol posted photos of the two on Facebook.

They also had some stale, but necessary, comments on the post.

Trooper L.C. Mendenhall responded to a call that an owl was injured in Forsyth County on Thursday morning.

The creature, which appears to be a barred owl, was taken to a veterinary specialist in Winston-Salem. It was expected to survive and be relocated to a rehab center, the post said.

Most comments on the post simply saluted the trooper on the save. Some, however, offered bird-related puns and others went as far as complimenting the officer on his looks.

“Outstanding… We never know Whooo our next call will involve…,” one man commented.

Another wrote, “Who gives a hoot? The owl. Nice job.”
