A man died early Monday after a vehicle hit him on North Duke Street, police said. The vehicle did not stop.
The man was crossing between the Horton Road and Fairfield Street intersections, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
Police said they thought the vehicle that hit the man was a dark-colored sedan, perhaps black.
The car likely sustained heavy front-end damage, Michael said.
The incident happened about 2:40 a.m.
Police said they were unable to identify the man at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.
Police asked that anyone who has information about the incident or the man's identity call Investigator G. Munter at 919-560-4935, ext. 29409 or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
