Wake County sheriff's deputies and firefighters searched Wednesday for a 78-year-old woman whose family said she had wandered away from her home on Holly Springs Road near Cary.
Shortly before noon, the state issued a Silver Alert for Yulan Yang and said she is believed to suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairment. Deputies had been looking for her since mid-morning.
Yang is 5 feet tall and weighs about 75 pounds, the alert said. She was last seen wearing a blue sweater.
An alert from the Wake County Sheriff's Office to other police agencies said Yang is 80.
The Silver Alert said Yang might have headed for the intersection of Holly Springs and Campbell roads.
Yang was on foot, authorities said.
Deputies asked anyone who sees her to call their local law enforcement agency or the Wake County Sheriff's Office Communications Center at 919-856-6911.
