16-year-old driver dies in Johnston County crash

A 16-year-old died Thursday morning in Johnston County when the car he was driving veered off the road and struck a tree.

Tyrese Makell Shaw of Angier was thrown from the 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor he was driving, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Emergency workers took Shaw to WakeMed, where he died of his injuries, Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Michael Baker said.

The single-vehicle crash happened just before 7:15 a.m. Thursday on County Line Road, near Ridge Road.

Investigators say the Mitsubishi was traveling on County Line Road when it veered off to the right. Troopers think Shaw over-corrected and swerved off the left side of the road, where the vehicle struck a tree and overturned.

The Mitsubishi came to a stop in the southbound lanes of County Line Road.

No charges are anticipated, Baker said..
