A stretch of Poole Road in East Raleigh is closed in both directions Friday afternoon because of a gas leak.

The road, near the intersection of Sunnybrook Road, closed about 1:45 p.m. and could remain closed for hours, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

“A third-party doing work in the area accidentally damaged our infrastructure, causing the leak,” Persida Montanez, a spokesperson for PSNC Energy, said in an email.

The leak is expected to be “secured” at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Montanez said. Then repairs will take an additional two to four hours.

The fire department blocked off the area for safety reasons.

“There is no danger to the public,” Montanez said.
