A 75-year-old Youngsville man who was last seen at Raleigh Duke Hospital on Tuesday was found dead the next day outside of his stalled car in Halifax County, Va., according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The N.C. Center for Missing Persons had issued a Silver Alert for Roy Colon Stephenson Jr., who suffered from the onset of dementia and cognitive impairment, and authorities do not think foul play was a factor in the death.
Stephenson left Raleigh Duke Hospital on Wake Forest Road in North Raleigh alone in his Toyota Camry.
“He was there with his wife for some reason,” Chief Deputy Terry Wright with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said Friday afternoon. “He had left to go home and feed the dogs and told his wife he was coming back.”

Stephenson’s wife called police the next day when her husband did not return to the hospital or home, Wright said. Halifax County authorities found Stephenson’s body down a dirt path.
“His car was stuck in the mud,” Wright said. “His wife said that he gets disoriented at times and has to look for landmarks while he’s driving.”
