Attorney General and apparent gubernatorial candidate Roy Cooper is jumping on the Dan River spill to blame Republicans for being lax on the environment.
“North Carolina’s water is at risk due to the drastic elimination of safeguards that stop contamination and there are fewer cops on the environmental beat,” reads a post on Cooper’s website. “Clean water is a public safety priority but actions by the legislature, governor and his administration have loosened protections that keep our water safe.”
Cooper’s website has a petition calling on Gov. Pat McCrory and the General Assembly to:
• Repeal portions of a regulatory reform bill the legislature passed and the governor signed into law last year.
