Arts Notes: Aug. 16

Jewelry-making class

A class in jewelry silversmithing will begin Aug. 20 in Clayton. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays for eight weeks. Topics include basic design, soldering, sawing, filing, drilling, stone setting, forms and polishing. The cost is $70 for Clayton residents and $85 for nonresidents. Music for lunch

This summer’s last Music for the Lunch Bunch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. Students of Julie Stewart will perform. Admission is free.

Chorale seeking voices for Christmas show

The Johnston County Chorale is seeking high school students and adults to sing in its Christmas show. Starting Aug. 31, registration is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays at First Baptist Church, 202 S. Fourth St., Smithfield. Note: The chorale will not meet Sept. 7. Auditions are not required. The registration fee is $35 for adults and $25 for students. Youth theater to offer acting classes

This fall, the Clayton Youth Theater will offer beginning acting for middle and high school students. Barbette Hunter will teach the class, which will meet Sept. 8-Oct. 27. The cost is $160 for middle school students and $190 for high school students. Register online at claytonyouththeater.com/classes.html.

Town Square concert

Idlewild South, an Allman Brothers tribute band, will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, on Town Square, 110 W. Main St., Clayton. The concert is free. Bring a lawn chair but no coolers. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

Variety show in Selma

Here are upcoming performances of the American Music Jubilee, the variety show at The Rudy theater, 300 N. Raiford St., Selma: 1:40 p.m. Aug. 20 and 29. Also, Nu-Tunes and Friends will perform at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. For ticket information, call 877-843-7839 or visit amjubilee.com.

Drawing for adults

The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department will offer a drawing class for adults. A morning session will begin Sept. 15 and will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. An evening session, also starting Sept. 15, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $40 for Clayton residents and $55 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-553-1550.

Art Faire seeks entries

The 17th annual Art Faire in Clayton is seeking entries. The competition will award six prizes in two categories – fine arts and photography. The deadline to enter is Aug. 24, Entries will go on display at The Clayton Center in September. The entry fee is $25 for members of Clayton Visual Arts and $40 for all others.
