LORD Corporation, with headquarters in Cary, celebrated its 90th year in business.

Lowes Foods in Cary hosted figure skater Samantha Cesario of the U.S. National Figure Skating Team Dec. 16 to promote the 2015 U.S. Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which will be at the Greensboro Coliseum January 17-25.

Retired Marine Gen. James Amos joined the board of directors of LORD Corporation, which has headquarters in Cary.

Michael Brown has been hired as thrift store manager of Dorcas Ministries in Cary. He has been a seasonal drop-off attendant for two years.

Nancy Broadwell was hired by SearStone in Cary as a social worker. Mark Freeman was hired as director of security and transportation and Fatima Smith as clinic manager. Aurora Oliveros was promoted to director of nursing.

Sunny Hwang is the town of Apex’s new information technology director.

Aaron Marco has joined Nirvelli Day Spa in Cary.

Morgan Southerland joined Fidelity Bank in Fuquay-Varina as vice president and business solutions officer.

The Butcher’s Market and the Kraft YMCA in Apex prepared holiday meals for 120 families in need Dec. 21.

Home Instead Senior Care collected and wrapped gifts at the Cary Senior Center Dec. 16 to be distribued to 165 older adults who are alone or who are financially challenged. The project was a collaboration with Resources for Seniors, Wake County Human Services and other assisted living communities.

The Garden Hut is collecting nonperishable food for the Fuquay-Varina Food Pantry at 1004 Old Honeycutt Road, Fuquay-Varina.
