The Cary Chamber of Commerce will meet for Business After Hours from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Triangle Rock Club, 102 Pheasant Wood Court, Morrisville.

H&R Block offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, for ACA Q&A Day. Customers can receive a free ACA tax impact analysis to help with their 2014 tax returns. No appointments are necessary.

The Morrisville Chamber of Commerce will meet for Coffee and Connections from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the White Ventures Chamber Building, 260 Town Hall Drive, Suite A. The event is free for chamber members. Non-members can attend three Coffee and Connections meetings for free, and subsequent meetings cost $10. LORD Corporation, which has headquarters in Cary, presented Dr. Mark Jolly, senior manager of mechanical and sensing research and development, the 2014 Donald M. Alstadt Technology Innovation Award on Dec. 18.

Philanthropy

Bob Barker Company and Angel Tree Christmas gave gifts to more than 60 children on behalf of their incarcerated parents at a Christmas party in Fuquay-Varina on Dec. 16.

The board of directors of the Cary Community Foundation announced seven grant awards, given to Activate Good for their Pro Heroes program; Assistance League of the Triangle Area for the Operation School Bell program; Cary Town Band for general operating support; Chabad of Cary for their Friendship Circle initiative; Life Experiences to provide scholarships; Read and Feed for their Giving Kids an Appetite for Reading program; InterAct for the Lethality Assessment Program; and Triangle Family Services for their DOSE program.

Lenovo employees in Morrisville collected more than 400 toys to donate to the United States Veterans Corps’ Toys for Lil’ Troops Initiative. The toys were taken to families at Fort Bragg.

Lowe’s Foods of Cary donated 800 hams to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina on Dec. 22.

The Garden Hut is collecting nonperishable food for the Fuquay-Varina Food Pantry at 1004 Old Honeycutt Road, Fuquay-Varina.

WRAL-TV is collecting warm winter clothing, money and toys for the Salvation Army. Donations can be made at participating Jiffy Lube and First Citizens Bank locations in Apex, Cary and Fuquay-Varina. For details, go to bit.ly/1yhOpOl. The deadline to contribute or donate is Jan. 1.
