Apex High student recognized
Santiago Suarez, a student at Apex High School, was chosen to join the National Society of High School Scholars. The honor is given to students for their leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
Thales Academy students compete in math
Emma Carney, Sam Ferguson, Ronith Gonsalves, Jonathan Kelley and Neil Tharwani of the Thales Academy middle school math team in Apex competed in the N.C. State Mathematics Contest on March 31. Morrisville student is Geography Bee Champion
Sravya Kuchibhotla, a seventh-grade student at Davis Drive Middle School in Cary, became the N.C. State 2014 Geography Bee Championship winner on April 4 at UNC-Charlotte. Sravya, who lives in Morrisville, is the daughter of Dr. Hari and Jyosthna Kuchibhotla.
The national competition will be in May in Washington, D.C., and winners will receive college scholarships worth $10,000 to $50,000. The first-place winner will also receive a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Moe’s Southwest Grill and the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education will give two $1,000 grants to elementary schools’ gardens. Vote for finalists from Monday, April 21, through Wednesday, April 30, at the Triangle Moe’s Southwest Grill Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MoesTriangle. Winners will be announced Friday, May 2.

Spring Vendor Fair and Bar-B-Q Sale
The Holly Springs High School Choral Boosters will host a Spring Vendor Fair and Bar-B-Q Sale on Saturday, April 26, at Holly Springs High School, 5329 Cass Holt Road. The vendor fair will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and barbecue sales will be from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Vendor spaces are available. The Middle Creek Elementary School Spring Carnival will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at 110 Middle Creek Park Ave., Apex. There will be food, a video game truck, giant trike races, a Flow Circus performance and mini golf. Admission costs $10 for kids older than 5 and $6 for ages 5 and younger.
Green Hope PTSA scholarships
Green Hope High School seniors who join the PTSA by Friday, May 2, may apply to win one of three $500 scholarships toward vocational school, community college or a four-year college or university in the fall of 2014. For details, go to www.ghhsptsa.org.
Friday Night Lights
Green Hope High School’s Friday Night Lights dance for the classes of 2016 and 2017 will be from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at 2599 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary. Students must turn in permission forms to receive free tickets. Forms are online at www.ghhsptsa.org and can be turned in during lunch on Tuesday, April 15, Wednesday, April 16, or Thursday, April 17.
