Police peacefully ended a standoff Sunday morning with a man who had taken hostages at the Amberwood Apartments on Ribbon Lane and one of them was stabbed.
The standoff ended shortly after 9 a.m. when the man surrendered to the Cary police Emergency Response Team, which had surrounded the apartment at 105 Ribbon Lane.
The man, whose identity police withheld Sunday, had taken a woman and two others, believed to be children, hostage early in the morning. Police were called shortly before 6 a.m.
The man released two people early in the incident and let the woman walk out later, but she had been stabbed, police said.

The woman had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital, a town of Cary spokeswoman said.
The man was taken to a different hospital for treatment of what police said were self-inflicted injuries. Official did not say how seriously he had hurt himself.
Police had called EMS workers forward to the apartment as soon as the man surrendered.
The standoff ended at 8:55 a.m. It was not known how long it had gone on before police received the call about it at 5:44 a.m.
They were not yet offering an explanation of how or why it began.
