School notes: May 9

Apex High School

The Apex High School Marching Band will hold its kick off meeting for the 2012 season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the school cafeteria. All interested musicians, dancers and color guard, including rising ninth graders and their parents are invited to attend the meeting. Musicians should bring their instruments and be ready to play while parents will receive information on this year’s performance and competition season. For details, visit www.apexhighband.org.

Athens Drive High School

After a successful local performance season, Athens Drive High Schools’ Winter Percussion Blue Line participated in the WGI Percussion World Championships April 19-21 in Dayton, Ohio. Competing in Scholastic A class (PSA), the ADHS Blue Line placed 15th out of 64 drumlines.

Mills Park Middle School

Five hundred sixth grade students from Mills Park Middle School talked to twenty different professionals at the annual Mills Park Truck Fair on April 27. Most of the drivers and businesses who participated spoke to students about how they use math, science, technology and other disciplines in their jobs.

The Substitute Teachers Association of Wake County will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at St. Timothy’s School, 4523 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. RSVP to stawakecounty@gmail.com.

West Cary Middle School

The West Cary Middle School Student Council participated in the Pennies for Pasta fundraiser, sponsored by Olive Garden Restaurants, for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and raised $1,034. Mr. Barnes’ eighth grade homeroom collected $212, followed closely by Mrs. McGarry’s sixth grade homeroom with $202. Both homerooms enjoyed a luncheon provided by Olive Garden.
