The Tobacco Road Basketball League’s regular-season title was on the line Saturday, and this year’s crown will go to the PrimeTime Players of Rock Hill, .S.C. The Cary Invasion, who won a regular-season title last year, fell to PrimeTime 99-93.
It was the season finale for Cary (9-3), which has locked up a home playoff game next week by clinching second place in this year’s playoffs.
The Invasion were without leading scorers Jonathan Moore and Freddie Little on the road trip and suited up just eight players. Anton Currie had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Paul Wright led all scorers with 24 points.
Cary will host the No. 3 seed in the TRBL semifinals, which will be either the Wilmington Sea Dawgs (6-6) or the Fayetteville Crossover (5-6), June 14 at the Herb Young Community Center. Invasion owner Mark Janas said that a championship game would be either June 16 or 17 depending on which teams advance and which one hosts.
