– A 15-year-old girl committed suicide by standing in front of a train in Morrisville on Monday, police determined.
The train struck the girl on Morrisville Carpenter Road, near its intersection with Chapel Hill Road, which runs parallel to the tracks. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroners later confirmed her identity and the family has been notified, according to city spokeswoman Stephanie Smith.
Police pieced together what lead to the collision by speaking with the train engineer, Smith said. Based on the investigation they ruled the death an apparent suicide. The case as been closed, Smith said.
Several streets were blocked when the train stopped and waited for authorities to conduct their investigation, resulting in major traffic delays on the evening commute.
