Ivy Cottage will host a “Welcome Spring” garden party from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at 2017 NW Cary Parkway, Morrisville. There will be a 20 percent discount on garden-themed items, and participants will learn to make their own terrarium.

Downtown Fuquay-Varina is holding a “Winter Thaw for Downtown” promotion. Customers who buy something at a downtown business will be entered into a drawing for a $500 downtown gift certificate. The winner will be announced April 1.

Kudos

Cheryl Palmer of Apex, a WakeMed nurse, earned WakeMed’s February 2015 DAISY Award. Palmer was nominated by the mother of a patient who she cared for in the Level IV NICU of WakeMed Raleigh Campus.

Amy Dittig, owner of Your Pet’s Best Friend, Inc. in Willow Springs, is one of five finalists for Pet Sitters International’s Pet Sitter of the Year honor. The winner will be announced this month.

Philanthropy

The Cary Chamber of Commerce is collecting donated books for WAKE Up and Read through Monday, March 2, at 307 N. Academy St.

The M/I Homes team raised over $5,000 for the Special Olympics of North Carolina in the Apex Police Department’s Polar Plunge.
