The Town of Cary will have a groundbreaking and street party Thursday, May 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. before construction on Academy Street begins. It is scheduled to start June 1.
Where: South Academy Street, from Chatham Street to Dry Avenue. The event starts at Academy and Chatham streets.
Parking: Along Chatham and Cedar streets; Cary Town Hall parking deck; public lots at the Cary Train Depot and on Walker and Waldo streets.
Food & Music: Food trucks Arepa Culture, Chick Wagon and Parlez-Vous Crepe; musical acts Bailey Spiritual Sounds Shout Band, Bulltown Strutters, The Moore Brothers Band, Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Cary Town Band.
Art: Local artists’ original works of downtown Cary will be on display at the Performance Green. The Cary Teen Council and Cary Visual Art will host interactive art in front of the downtown library where the community can write their memories of Academy Street in chalk on the sidewalk or with marker on a banner.
Good to know: In case of rain, the event will be canceled.
