The Town of Cary spent about $15,000 on a 3-day retreat to Greensboro, where council members and staff discussed infill development and redevelopment.
About 35 people attended the work session, which ran from Thursday, Jan. 28, to Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown.
The group toured several development and redevelopment projects in Greensboro, including Midtown, an up-and-coming destination area that used to be industrial warehouse space. They also met with several local developers and Greensboro City Council members and staff.
The Cary Town Council will continue discussions about encouraging infill development and redevelopment over the next few months while a draft planning document, which will govern growth through 2040, is refined by Imagine Cary, a group of residents and planners.
Town officials have been holding out-of-town retreats for years. In 2015, the council and staff traveled to Charlotte.
