The Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association is holding a “Winter Thaw for Downtown” promotion. Customers who buy something at a downtown business in March will enter a drawing for a $500 downtown gift certificate. The winner will be announced Wednesday, April 1.

The free AARP TaxAide service is available from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, except for April 2, through April 14 at Cambridge Village of Apex, 10000 Cambridge Village Loop. Bring relevant original documents for 2014. For married couples filing taxes jointly, both people should be present.

Philanthropy

Sport Clips Haircuts presented a check to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund on March 5 in Apex after a state-wide fundraiser in February.
