Tobacco Road Marathon and Half-Marathon registration
Registration is open for the annual Allscripts Tobacco Road Marathon and the GNC Half Marathon to be held Sunday, March 13, along the American Tobacco Trail, starting in Cary. Registration fees are $90 for the marathon and $80 for the half marathon. Registration will increase incrementally until the run. All proceeds go to JDRF, the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Red Cross and the Rails to Trails Conservancy as well as Wake County Parks and Recreation. tobaccoroadmarathon.com.
The Stevens Nature Center hosts activities for kids at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, 2616 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary. Registration costs $12 for Cary residents and $16 for non-residents unless another price is given. 919-387-5980.

Healthy Aging Health Fair

Sept. 11 service project
Cary is looking for volunteers for two service projects on Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12. Volunteers will make raised vegetable gardens at local fire stations. The first project is 4-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Fire Station #5, 2101 High House Road. The second is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, at Fire Station #4, 1401 Old Apex Road.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraiser
Chick-fil-A of Apex will host a 5k to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, starting in the parking lot of Home Depot, 1000 Vision Drive, Apex. The race is planned to end around 10:30 a.m.
