Art Notes: Nov. 18-21

Call for artists

Artistic Expressions Gallery in Fuquay-Varina is seeking new members. The gallery is at 118 Raleigh St. The gallery will accept a limited number of admissions in a juried selection process.

Art Ball

Cary Visual Art’s 19th annual Art Ball starts with an artists’ reception at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Prestonwood Country Club, 300 Prestonwood Parkway. Tickets are $250 each.

Comedy with Kier

Comedian Kier will bring his History of Rock Guitar Riffs to The Cary theater, 122 E. Chatham St., at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. Kier’s impressions include Sting, Dave Matthews and Neil Young. Tickets are $13 to $15.

Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy

Drummer Carl Palmer will be joined by Paul Bielatowicz on guitar and Simon Fitzpatrick on bass at The Cary theater, 122 E. Chatham St., at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Palmer was voted by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 10 greatest drummers of all time. He is a founding member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia. VIP packages are available that include sound check access, meet and greet and table service. Tickets are $19.95 to $99.75.

‘The Stranger’

The Cary screens “The Stranger” for $5 at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at 122 E. Chatham St.

Post-Turkey Day Jam Benefit

The annual concert at The Cary theater, 122 E. Chatham St., is at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. It features Jon Shain, the Parsons, Dave Burney and the Gravy Boys. Proceeds will benefit the Town of Cary’s Relief for Recreation Scholarship Program and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service. Tickets are $10 to $25. 919-462-2051 or

Chinese lantern festival

The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival begins Saturday, Nov. 28, and runs through Sunday, Jan. 3, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary. Tickets are $20 for ages 18 and older, $12 for ages 3-17 and free for ages 2 and younger. A pack of four costs $50.


The Fine Arts League of Cary’s 2015 Annual Member Exhibition and “Functional Art Pottery” by Kenneth Neilsen open with receptions from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary. The Fine Arts League of Cary exhibition is in the first and second floor galleries and Neilsen’s pottery is in the lobby display case.

Raleigh Boychoir

The Holly Springs Cultural Center’s Discovery Series of performances is at 7:30 p.m. one Friday each month this fall through spring at 300 W. Ballentine St. Tickets cost $5.

Classical Christmas music with Oak City Brass will be on Dec. 18. “Wire Boy” will be on Jan. 22. The Holly Springs Professional Showcase will be Feb. 12. “Place Match: The City Doctor’s Guide to Finding Where You Belong” with Dr. Katherine Loflin will be March 11.

‘Winterfest ‘15’

“Winterfest ’15” with the Cary Town Band is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the Cary Senior Center Ballroom at Bond Park, 120 Maury Odell Place. The band plays music for Christmas, Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice and the New Year.

‘The Nutcracker’ Suite

The Campaneria Ballet Company in Cary will present “International Repertory and Journey to the Nutcracker Suite,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, and Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Tickets are $16. Aviation Art Contest

The N.C. Department of Transportation is accepting entries from ages 6-17 through Jan. 22 for the Aviation Art Contest. This year’s theme is “Air Sports in Harmony with Nature.”

‘For All the Seasons’

The Cary Town Band’s concert “For All the Seasons” is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Admission is free.

Small Treasures

The Cary Gallery of Artists’ eight annual Small Treasures Juried Exhibit runs from March 25 through April 23. Entries and fees are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 4.
